Orlando's "Lakes" and Me

I'm not sure if you have ever flown over Orlando and noticed how many "lakes" there are within the city...they are EVERYWHERE! I seriously can't drive more than a 1/4 mile in any direction from my house before hitting a lake!
But anyways, let's first discuss the term "lake" and how it is used in Florida, specifically Orlando. You see, being from Kansas, you have to be able to ski, fish, and basically not be able to swim across it easily in order for something to qualify as a "lake". Now, I will give the FL peeps that atleast their "lakes" are naturally made by aquifers and Kansas' are all man-made/dammed rivers, but c'mon....some of those are just PONDS - retention ponds/drainage ponds...maybe eve sewage ponds!
And here's a new one....they have BRAIN AMOEBAS! I didn't think I would ever use the word amoeba ever again after my KU biology classes! Have you heard about these things??? If not, I will educate you on another blog. It has made my list of "Things to be Afraid of in Florida". Hmmmm...sounds like a blog topic.
Anyways, these "lakes" in Orlando are really starting to tick me off. I seriously can't drive anywhere without running into a lake! You would think that you would just go around it and pickup where you left off, but somehow the road ends or atleast I can't find it. I can't tell you how many times I've had to call Chuck to get me back home or to where I'm trying to get too. I think I can actually relate to those people lost in a forest that walk and walk and just end up going in a big circle!
Don't get me wrong...these lakes (see how the acceptance has come...I'm not even using "quotes" anymore) are really pretty and make this city gorgeous (and not so city-like) with natural landscaping. You can actually see the aquifer bubbling in the middle of the lake and there are ducks/swans everywhere. So...I guess that was more of a rant than a blog....but I was just wondering if anyone else has had to deal with these mapquest breakers?? :)
